Principal Scientist, Bioinformatics

The ideal candidate will have the following areas of expertise: Molecular Bioinformatics, statistical analysis of next-generation sequencing data and microarray.

The hands on scientist will conduct statistical analyses in a variety of genome scale experiments and will analyze high-throughput genomic datasets derived from Next-Generation sequencing and array technologies.

Perform quality control and analysis e.g., intra/inter array normalization, significance testing, discrimination and classification, clustering, identification of gene regulatory themes, mapping of binding events, error modeling, and sequence mapping to relevant genomes.

Collaborate with individual research teams to design custom software that facilitates visualization and meaningful quantification and interpretation of data obtained.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • PhD in bioinformatics or related field and a minimum of 2 year’s of experience in providing data analysis support to genomics research or other related disciplines is required, industry experience is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate statistical concepts and data analysis interpretations to non-statisticians.
  • Solid understanding of analytical techniques associated with analysis of high throughput microarray and/or Next-Generation sequencing data.
  • Must be familiar with available third party software packages useful in analyzing data.
  • Thorough knowledge of the statistical tools is essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work on cross-functional teams to meet milestones and deadlines.
  • Fluency with Perl, R, C, Python and general programming languages.
  • Experience with project management of complex projects a plus.
