Principal Scientist, DNA Amplification and Genotyping Specialist
Skills Desired: Molecular DNA based Enzymatic Biochemistry, PCR, Micro-array
The successful candidate will supervise an interdisciplinary team of biologists, engineers and chemists and will work on development and optimization of commercial assays for the quantitative molecular analyses of DNA. This individual will devise and conduct experiments, then analyze and summarize experimental results as supervisor of a group of Research Associates & Scientists. This person will also interact with a diverse group of Engineering and Biology scientists as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications
Must have the following experience:
- Experience with and thorough understanding of DNA-based enzymatic biochemistry including, but not limited to Q-PCR/Real-time PCR
- Hands on experience with multi-well, plate-based assays such as PCR and the ability to handle large numbers of samples in an organized manner
- Expertise in a variety of chemistries related to the detection of rare sequences, alleles, mutations or base changes
- Expertise in methods and tools for genotyping including and not limited to Q-PCR
- Use of non-PCR DNA amplification technologies (e.g. Phi-29)
- Demonstrated ability to develop novel molecular assays
- The ability to function independently as well as work on coordinated projects as part of a team
Preferred experience:
- Micro-array experience, particularly for DNA analysis or mutation detection
- Identification and/or isolation of rare cell populations including methods of magnetic-bead based separation
- Flow-cytometry/FACS for analysis and/or sorting
- Ability to perform effectively in a startup environment
Requirements
PhD in Biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field, and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required. Industry experience and knowledge of product or assay development required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
